It's free to apply online for an Australian business number (ABN) with the Australian Business Register (ABR).
To get an ABN you must be carrying on an enterprise in the form of a business. Your application will be refused if you are not entitledExternal Link.
Once you are registered your details will be added to the ABR and it's your responsibility to keep them up-to-date.
Your application will be processed faster if we can identify you with the information you provide.

Note: If your ABN was recently cancelled by us, you may not need to submit a new application. Call 13 92 26 to see if your ABN can be reinstated over the phone.

If the effective start date of your ABN is in the future, your ABN (and/or Business Name) will not display on ABN LookupExternal Link until the ABN start date has been reached.
You can save and return to your application as many times as required before the expiry date.
