Update government ABN details
It is important to keep your agency’s Australian business number (ABN) details up to date to maintain the integrity of the Australian Business Register (ABR).
Your agency’s ABN details must be updated within 28 days of becoming aware of changes.
If there are updates to the authorised contact/s, these details should be updated as soon as possible. This ensures that matters relating to the agency’s ABN can be dealt with efficiently.
Note: If your agency’s structure changes as a result of government changes, you may need to update, cancel or apply for a new ABN. Any changes to your agency’s ABN will require formal documentary evidence, for example, a gazettal notice or administrative order.
How to update ABN details
If your agency’s ABN is linked to your myID in Relationship Authorisation Manager, then the fastest way to update your details is through ABR online services.
All changes made to your ABN online take effect immediately.
Alternatively, you can:
- contact us
- ask your tax professional
- lodge a form.
What can't be updated
You can't update your business name or agency's legal name through the ABR. Business name changes made by the ATO and ASIC will update the ABR automatically.
